A Brief History of Pink
We began by looking at the history of pink — a color that wasn’t always considered feminine.
From royal fashion to wartime kitchens, students explored how pink’s meaning has changed over time, and how it became gendered in modern culture.
Creation Time:
Drawing with Only Pink
Each student was given just one tool: a pink pen.
They were invited to draw freely — anything they imagined — using only that color.
Through this limitation, new possibilities emerged: tanks, oceans, aliens, food, animals, self-portraits.
Telling Their Stories
After drawing, students were asked to share their thoughts:
What did you draw? Why pink? What does this color mean to you?
Some spoke of childhood, some of stereotypes, and some of things they just really like — and never felt free to say before.
